Howden SX, SXT and SXM fan parts
The Howden SX is Howden's fan for air cooled heat exchangers, with one piece forward swept FRP blades and adjustable pitch, built from 28 in to 36 ft and typically 9 to 18 ft on air coolers, in induced or forced draft. Howden rates the SX at up to 20 dB(A) quieter than standard fans. The SXT adds Howden's Air Seal Technology. Howden calls the SXT its most economic ultra low noise fan. Its Air Seal Technology is there to cut backflow around the blades. Howden reports supplying more than 600 SX fans to Golden Pass LNG in Texas. For SXM sizes, call us.
A Howden upgrade in Alberta
On a 1960s cooler at an Alberta gas plant in 2024, our team upgraded the fans to Howden ultra low noise fans, with inlet bells, timing belts and DG-II Anti Rotation Devices®. After the turnaround the nearest resident noticed a big drop in noise, and the fans moved more air from the same motors. See the result.
How Howden builds its fans
Howden builds its cooling fans with fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP) blades and polyurethane coated steel hubs. The standard operating range is -20°C to 65°C (-4°F to 149°F), extendable on request, and Howden's oil and gas literature rates its FRP fans for 500°F for 4 hours in a fire case. Howden tests fan performance to ISO 5801 and AMCA standards at its test rig in Hengelo, Netherlands.
