Older Moore Class 5000 fans: parts and upgrades

Moore Class 5000 is an older family of Moore axial fans with aluminum blades, from about 3 to 16 ft in diameter, still running on many air cooled heat exchangers and cooling towers, including engine driven units. Class 5000 isn't among the fan lines Moore lists as current. Fan-Div supplies replacement parts for older Moore Class 5000 fans, and upgrades them to higher efficiency fans where that makes sense.

Series covered: Series 19, 27, 33, 40, 49, 60 and 73, in Manual, Manual Extended, Automatic and Engine Drive versions.

Diameters as Moore's datasheets state them, with feet added. Blade count varies by fan. Where a diameter reads "Call to confirm", Moore's own documents disagree, so we confirm it for your fan.

Moore also lists Series 27 Manual, Series 33, 40 and 49 in Automatic and Engine Drive, Series 60 Engine Drive and Manual Extended, and Series 73 Automatic. Call us for these.

Upgrading an older Class 5000 fan

Older aluminum fans can often be replaced with higher efficiency fans. On one SAGD site in Alberta in 2018, 16 low efficiency Moore fans were converted to high efficiency fans. Tip speed went from 8,000 to 10,000 ft/min, with timing belts, inlet bells and DG-II Anti Rotation Devices®, and the site no longer had to cut production on 34°C days. See the result.

Every fan is different. We check the duty against the fan curve, the drive and the motor, and sometimes the answer is keep what you have. Thinking about a speed change instead? See what a speed change does.

How to read a Moore nameplate

Moore nameplates give the class and the series. Newer fans add letter codes for the duty and the blade chord:

  • SD: Standard duty
  • HD: Heavy duty, engine drive rated
  • SC: Standard chord
  • HS: Standard chord, high speed
  • EC: Extended chord
  • XC: Xtra wide chord
  • MAG: Minimum acoustic geometry, Moore's low noise blade
  • CSP: Moore's automatic (pneumatic) pitch fans

Read those off the nameplate and get in touch. We'll match the parts.

Class 5000 questions

Before you order.

Can you still get parts for an older Moore Class 5000 fan?

Often, yes. Tell us the series, diameter and what's failing, and we'll tell you what we can source and what an upgrade would look like if a part is hard to get. Moore Fans is still in business.

What should I replace an older Moore fan with?

It depends on the duty. We check it against the fan curve, the drive and the motor. Often that points to a higher efficiency fan, and sometimes the answer is keep what you have.

How do I read a Moore fan nameplate?

The nameplate gives the class and the series, for example Class 5000, Series 49. Newer fans add letter codes: SD standard duty, HD heavy duty, and SC, HS, EC and XC for the blade chord.
